Five Important Nutrients For A Fit And Healthy Mommy To Be

When you are “eating for two”, there are five important nutrients that every mommy to be should have a daily intake of to be fit and healthy- not only for her but for her unborn child as well.  So if you are totally rocking the baby bump, be sure that you get enough Folate, Calcium, Iron, Fiber, and Zinc.

Folate

At the very beginning of your pregnancy, before conception is even better, one of the most important nutrients that your growing body needs is Folate- 400 micrograms a day.  Ever wonder why your doctor prescribes you to take those folic acid pills (which is actually the synthetic version of Folate)?  This is actually more for your baby than it is for you as it greatly reduces the possibility of neural tube defects.  So aside from taking your daily pill, be sure to have a lot of beans, whole grain foods, chicken, fish, pork, citrus fruits, and green leafy veggies.

Calcium

Milk does the body good- for both you and your baby.  As you probably already know, calcium is a must to have strong teeth and bones.  That is why it is very important from the second trimester on since that is when your baby really does start to develop those parts.  So make sure that you have enough to support the two of you during this crucial time- 1,200 milligrams a day.  So be sure to eat lots of green vegetables, soy products, and of course, dairy products- low fat for a fit mom.

Iron

Iron is up next.  Remember that when you are pregnant, your blood volume increases up to 50% sometime in the third trimester.  That is why you will need about 30 milligrams everyday by then.  Red meat and liver are great sources, but not when you are pregnant because the high amounts of Vitamin A found in these foods can be harmful for the baby.  So opt for broccoli and spinach instead.  Since getting the recommended amount can be hard from food alone, doctors usually prescribe a supplement of sort to help you get your daily dose.

Fiber

Fiber, about 25 milligrams a day, is the ideal dose.  Not only is this great for your health as it helps eliminate any unwanted toxins and reduces constipation, it is also a great way to keep fit since it helps keep you fuller longer.  So you probably won’t eat as much as often.  You can get a lot of fiber from vegetables, fruits, and whole grain foods.

Zinc

To be extra sure that your child is healthy, you will need to up your Zinc intake by at least 50%.  Studies have shown that one of the leading causes of birth defects is a deficiency in Zinc.  You can get this from meat, seafood (no raw seafood for you though), legumes, and whole grains.

For a detailed diet as well as exercise routines and other tips on being a fit and healthy mommy to be, you can check out some fitness programs such as Pregnancy Without Pounds by Michelle Moss.

Another thing that may just tweak your interest since we are already on the topic is Ashley Spencer’s gender selection book.

Male Infertility- What Causes It

Male Infertility- What Causes It
Whenever a couple has problems getting pregnant, the problem may either be the woman’s, the man’s or maybe even both.  But in this article, we will focus on male infertility and what causes it.  So if you guys have already looked into the proper timing and proper positions and still no luck, the maybe the problem might be deeper than that.  So here are some of the top causes of male infertility.  Just be sure to go to a doctor to have yourself checked to know for sure.
Sperm Problems
This is probably one of the biggest factors that could possibly be holding you back, your pregnancy back that is.  Since sperm is very much needed to conceive, sperm disorders may be a huge issue.  Did you know that our of the millions of sperm, only about a hundred or so have a fighting chance of getting to the egg?  So here are some things that you must consider- sperm count, sperm mobility, forward progression, and, sperm shape and size.  You should have a medical professional check for any disorders regarding these factors.
Immune System Problems
Problems with the immune system automatically mean problems for the sperm.  If there is a problem with your immune system, there is a big chance that it might end up producing anti bodies that will actually fight the sperm and up killing them.  Sure this is relatively rare as it only happens to about 2% of all men, but who knows, you might just be one of the unlucky few.
STDs Sexually Transmitted Diseases
STDs can be a huge factor when it comes to infertility in men because they may damage some parts of the body that are needed to move the sperm to the reproductive tract.  Aside from infertility, this also causes tons of other medical concerns.
Age
Just like women, age may also be one of the reasons of infertility.  Just because you are not the one going to carry the child for nine months does not mean that this is crossed off your list.  Studies show that fertility rates drop more than half for 60% of men when they reach 40.
What To Do
If you and your wife have been trying to conceive for over 6 months and still have no baby, then you ought to get checked at your local clinic.  Aside from that you should also check your lifestyle, change it if needed, take care of your body, and maybe even try some pregnancy programs with your partner like Pregnancy Miracle or IVF Success.

Main Causes Of Morning Sickness

Main Causes Of Morning Sickness
Although there is no certain and specific cause of morning sickness, doctors and medical professionals have their hunches.  One thing, however,  that is for sure is that if you are pregnant, chances are you will have to go through it.  So to give you a better understanding, here are a couple of factors that probably lead to it- the main causes of morning sickness.
Progesterone
Remember that once you get knocked up, your hormone levels just go whack, the hormone progesterone included.  This is actually the one that allows your body to relax by easing and soothing muscles.  The thing is, when you are pregnant, this may also ease and soothe the muscles in your digestive system as well.  This may then make the whole process of digesting food much slower then creating an excess build up of acid which may then lead to nausea.
Estrogen
Speaking of hormones, another one that could be the cause of morning sickness is Estrogen.  Although no one really knows why, estrogen dramatically increases in the first few months of pregnancy.  The whole change itself could be the cause or it could just be the fact that it is somehow connected to the placenta along with its development.
Low Blood Sugar And Low Blood Pressure
Low blood sugar and low blood pressure can make just about anyone feel dizzy and nauseous, men and women alike.  So can you just imagine how bad it is for a pregnant person?  Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can lead to low blood sugar and low blood pressure which can cause morning sickness.
Stress
Another factor, although it has not been scientifically proven to have a direct connection to morning sickness, is stress.  Stress, in general, affects the entire well being of a person., so you can just imagine the toll it takes on an expecting mother.
And So…
There are a couple of things that you can do to help ease the pains of morning sickness if not get rid of it altogether.  You should eat healthy foods and keep on snaking though the day (light and healthy snacks as well), avoid vices such as cigarettes and alcohol, get enough rest, and you can even check out programs like Ending Morning Sickness.  There are a couple of old wives tales or you can just go ahead and ask your doctor for some medical advice.

Dealing With Morning Sickness The Natural Way
Almost all pregnant women suffer through morning sickness sometime during their first trimester.  Some women may even have this well into their second.  Despite being called MORNING sickness, moms to be feel dizzy and nauseous practically the whole day through- more like MOURNING sickness, mourning the loss of not wanting to throw up every now and then.

Your doctor most probably already gave a you a quick rundown of what a pregnant woman should and should not eat.  Aside from that, there are other things regarding your diet that you should take note of.  First of all, this is more like a trial and error thing, is that you should know what triggers it and keep away from those kinds of foods.  Aside from that, you should also try your best to avoid fried and fatty foods too.  It is actually a good idea to keep on eating throughout the day, but this does not mean that you should overdo it just because you are “eating for two”.  So instead of having three large meals, break them up and have frequent smaller meals.  It is also a good idea to have healthy snacks ready, like crackers, fruit, cereal, or bread.  One more thing is for you to keep the liquids flowing- water or juice at least.  You should also avoid carbonated drinks and limit your caffeine intake to around a cup a day.
Aroma Therapy
Aroma therapy might also just do the trick.  Peppermint essential oil is supposed to do wonders since this smell is known to help ease a queasy stomach.  You will need am aromatherapy diffuser for this, but don’t worry because they don’t cost much and are easy to find.  Fill up a bowl with hot water, add a few drops, find a good place (preferably somewhere near), and let it do its magic.
Programs And Books
If you want even more tips, specific steps, and information, you can always turn to programs and books that are available.  One of the best selling ebooks regarding this matter is End Morning Sickness by Clair Batten.  So that is definitely something that you might wanna check out.

You want to avoid it eating raw meat to avoid getting infected.  Remember that it won’t only infect you but your baby too.  So stay away from the sushi and throw the meat I on the grill.

Raw Eggs

Speaking of raw, you should also steer clear of raw eggs too.  Raw eggs also pose the risk of Salmonella.  You may think that you don’t just crack open and eat it anyway, but there are certain foods that have raw eggs that you should avoid.  These include cake batter, cookie dough, mayo, egg nog, and even homemade ice cream.

Soft Cheese

Cheese is a great source of calcium- something that you need a whole lot of when you are pregnant, especially in the second and third trimesters because that is when the development of bones and teeth of your child is at its peak.  However, you should avoid soft cheeses.  The main reason you should stay away from brie, blue cheese, feta, queso blamco and fresco to name a few is that the way these kinds of cheese were made.  The whole process may leave them with harmful bacteria.

Fish

Aside from sashimi and sushi, there are certain types of fish that you should also keep away from while you are pregnant.  Remember that mercury can actually lead to the brain damage of your child.  So you shouldn’t eat tilefish, mackerel shark, and sword fish because they contain mercury.  Also, you should avoid fish that have PCB, polychlorinated biphenyls, warnings such as salmon, bass, bluefish, trout, and pike.  PCB may lead to memory problems and lower IQ levels.

Keeping Active During Pregnancy

Carrying a baby in your womb for nine months is no easy job.  It really does take a lot out of you, but that doesn’t mean that you should just be lying around all the time.  Actually, it’s quite the opposite.  Sure, you won’t be able to keep up with your regular exercise routine so here are some ways on how you can keep active during pregnancy.

Walking

Walking is probably the best exercise you can do while pregnant.  It is even recommended by doctors not only for the sake of getting your regular workout but it is also believed to make the whole delivery process much easier and much faster.  Plus, what makes it even better is that you can actually run errands while doing so- go to the grocery store or pick up the little ones from school.  Taking a slow stroll is also a good way to relieve stress.

Swimming

Swimming is another way to keep active while pregnant.  This actually serves as a full body workout, plus you can’t deny that it is a whole lot of fun.  Whether you are doing laps up and down the pool or if you are just enjoying the feeling of being weightless in the water, this is also a good way for you to get rid of unwanted stress.  The only downfall is that not everyone may have access to a pool and that swimming should be done only in a pool.  Lakes, ponds, and the ocean are out of the question.  It is believed that while you are pregnant, there is a possibility of you getting an infection because of bacteria in the water.

Yoga

Yoga is actually perfect for stretching as well as strengthening your muscles too.  What is great about this is that you can do it practically throughout the whole nine months of conception.  Of course as your belly grows, you may not be able to do all of the positions  you used to be able to do before.  But there are tons of poses especially designed for a woman with a baby bump.  You can even go ahead and take a prenatal class to help you out.  And if you are not willing to go the fitness center or gym to do so, then you can always get some prenatal yoga DVDs and books to guide you so that you can do it right from the comfort of your own home.

Programs

There are also tons of ebooks and programs that you can get that can give you more details on keeping active during pregnancy, staying fit, and eating right too.  Pregnancy Without Pounds by Michelle Moss is definitely worth a look.

So let’s start.  When dealing with morning sickness, it is normal to lose a little weight, especially because certain kinds of food may be “triggers” of sorts.  But even with the nausea and or vomiting, you may have some bouts but nothing bad enough from keeping you from eating entirely.  However, if you lose about 5-20 pounds or around 5% of you weight before you got pregnant, then you should be more concerned as that is one of the main signs of Hyperemesis Gravidarum.  This is also because the nausea and vomiting becomes rather serious that some women will find it hard to keep down food- no matter what it is.

Another thing is that when it is just your normal kind of morning sickness, you can expect it to be gone by the time you are done with the first trimester.  It is not the same with Hyperemesis Gravidarum.  Although by week 20 you will feel relief, you will still suffer through bouts throughout the entire pregnancy.

Speaking of better, simple diet and lifestyle changes should be able to provide you with some relief from morning sickness.  But if you have Hyperemesis Graidarum, these changes won’t really have ay effect.  You will actually need to seek a doctor and get proper medication.

And So…

Female Infertility- What Causes It

Female Infertility- What Causes It
So you have been trying to get pregnant but still no success.  After you have gone over some of the common possible problems like if you are trying at the right time (during ovulation) or if you have a vice or two that may be holding pregnancy back (like smoking and drinking) then maybe it is time to head on down to your doctor and have yourself checked. Listed below are some of the most common conditions that may lead to infertility problems.
Age
This is probably one of the biggest factors.  When a woman starts getting older, it gets harder and harder for her to conceive.  It’s the rule of nature.  Studies show that 90% of healthy women from ages 20-24 can conceive within a year.  As the age range goes higher, the percentage goes lower.  Ages 25-29, it is 75%, 30-34 65%,  35-39 52%.  So if you are in your mid 30s and you still haven’t had any success in about 6 months, then it is best to pay your doctor a visit.
Ovulation Problems
Everyone knows that the perfect time to get pregnant is when you are ovulating.  So ovulation problems may be a very big problem indeed.  This is usually caused by hormone imbalances.  This means that you may not have a certain hormone or simply that it is not being released at the right time.
Lifestyle
Another cause may actually be alcohol and cigarettes.  It is okay to have the occasional drink every now and then, but if you find yourself dinking quite a lot, this may affect your fertility.  Smoking is even worse.  Smoking may lead to tubal pregnancies, pelvic infections, and even cervical cancer.
Stress is another known factor.  Though there isn’t any solid evidence on how it affects pregnancy or the inability of it, it does affect the whole body in a very negative way.  So this is definitely something that you ought to alleviate anyway.
More Medical Conditions
Aside from those mentioned, for more serious cases, female infertility could be caused by blocked fallopian tubes, Endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, or even cervical mucus problems.  Cancer treatments may also be another cause.
What To Do
First of all, you have to go to your doctor and have yourself checked.  After that, you should take care of your body like by taking vitamins and ditching the vices, and you can even try some programs too, like Pregnancy Miracle or IVF Success to name a few.
